Nephros (Color)
“Nephros”, the Greek name for kidney, is a unique representation of our body’s greatest filter. Weighing in at 4-6 ounces, it receives more blood than all organs other than the liver (filtering over 45 gallons of blood per day!). It is made up of millions of nephrons that helps to filter our blood. This anatomically correct view demonstrates a cross-sectional view of the kidneys so that we can take a look at the calyces and components that allow us to make urine.
The original “Nephros” is 18” x 24” and was made over three days and 18 hours in November 2017 when I was a second-year Internal Medicine resident.
