Honeycomb (Color)
The average person takes up to 20,000 resting breaths per day. On average we breath 13 pints of air every 60 seconds. The lungs are made of tube-like air sacs which are at the end of a branch-like network of intricacy. This infrastructure and its complexity inspired me to make the interior (and exterior) of the lungs appear honeycomb-like. The hummingbird in this illustration is representative of a number of avian-related disease that often involves the lungs.
The original “Honeycomb” is 18” x 24” and was made over three days and eighteen hours in February 2018 when I was a second-year Internal Medicine resident.
